Why is Hometessori for you?
Montessori at home is often thought of as only limited to rich families and those with spacious homes and have training. These are unnecessary limitations that our curriculum, Hometessori, is crossing.
- You can implement and follow Montessori even without teaching background or training.
- You can homeschool with limited space.
- You can provide lessons without expensive materials.
ABOUT MONTESSORI & HOMESCHOOLING
Montessori education is designed to meet the needs of children at every stage of their lives. It is not simply a method of teaching but a way of life, emphasizing the importance of observing what is already present and bringing about the best possible outcomes for each child. Therefore, the focus is on fulfilling the inner needs of the child, rather than aiming for specific intellectual or academic achievements.
The learning triangle in Montessori consists of the adult, the child, and the environment. The adult prepares the environment to foster each child’s independence within defined limits. This setting is maintained with order and calmness allowing children to focus and engage in their tasks independently. The adult offers guidance and support as the child progresses at their own pace.
The key principles include respect for the child, the absorbent mind, sensitive periods, prepared environment, hands-on learning and more. You can read further here.
Sensitive periods are specific times in a child’s development when they are particularly receptive to learning certain skills or knowledge. Montessori education takes advantage of these windows to introduce concepts at the most opportune times.
Montessori at home involves creating a prepared environment that encourages independence and exploration. This includes using child-sized furniture, accessible learning materials, and allowing the child to choose activities that interest them.
It doesn’t require having all wooden toys or having all the classroom materials. It’s not setting up your home to be like a classroom. You can implement Montessori at home even with just what you already have.
A typical Montessori homeschool day usually includes an uninterrupted work period with a few short presentations, lots of independent work time, and real-life practical life work around the home.
Montessori homeschooling is a homeschooling method that follows Montessori principles and uses hands-on, sequential lessons (based on observed readiness in the child), instead of worksheets-first academics. The adult prepares the environment to support the child's development and seeks to protect the child's concentration and pursuit of independence.
Yes. You can do Montessori homeschooling without formal training by using clear lesson presentation guides, scope-and-sequences, and guidance on preparing the environment that supports independence. Your preparedness is vital as your child's adult guide. Hometessori equips and provides you with the tools so you can transform along with your child.
Reduce worksheets, increase hands-on work, and establish rhythms around a daily work cycle. Start observing your child, then make adjustments based on your child's developmental needs and interests.
The essential Montessori materials for homeschooling support independence and hands-on learning across Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Math, and Cultural areas. Many can be DIY, like color tablets, sound cylinders from small containers, or number rods using taped or painted blocks. If you’re prioritizing, start with child-sized Practical Life tools plus one strong material per area so your homeschool stays Montessori-aligned without feeling overcrowded

Use a low shelf for current works and labeled bins for rotations. Store future work by subject area or by relationship/category, and keep trays/baskets ready so you can rotate quickly.

Anchor the day with one protected work cycle, then build practical life into your home life rhythm, involving them in chores. Offer independent work to one child (if the child can't choose), while you give short presentations to another.
Orient the child to the home environment (whether tangible or invisible) through grace and courtesy lessons. Prepare ahead with lesson planning. Focus on fewer materials and 1-2 lessons per area in a week (up to a month). Aim for a consistent short work cycle during your breaks (or at your assigned time block) and flexible practical life activities throughout the day.
Check the environment first: too many choices, work too hard, work too easy, too much adult talk, or too many interruptions. Offer fewer, simpler works and rebuild trust through connection and routine. Many children need consistency before long concentration appears.

Start with movement-based Practical Life (carrying, sweeping, transferring, washing) or games (even Montessori has games!), give outdoor time daily, and protect the work cycle from constant adult interruption.
Be the child's model, and avoid correcting the child mid-work unless safety is involved. Set a clear work time, limit phone use, and reduce sibling interruptions with prepared activities.
Use clear limits, consistent boundaries, and grace-and-courtesy lessons. In Montessori, discipline is built through purposeful work, not through rewards and punishments.
If the child misuses the materials to the point of destruction or causing harm, show correct use once, then remove the material calmly if misuse continues. Reintroduce later when the child is ready.
